Ohio: "Actively and Zealously Pursuing Stupidity"
My state is populated by a vast quantity of idiots.

Back in November, Ohio passed the most comprehensive gay-marriage ban of all eleven states engaging in this act of wanton bigotry. (Me? Opinionated..? Nah. ^^;;) According to Ohio's Issue One, there are to be no civil unions for homosexuals, no domestic partnerships, no nothing. It even denied rights to unmarried heterosexuals. That's how determined voters in favor of this act were to define Ohio homosexuals as second class citizens.

Fundamentalist Christians across the state celebrated the damn thing. Me? I was crying in the bathroom.

Recently, a man in Warren County (oh, that's where I live!) got it in his head to beat his live in girlfriend. Prior to November, this poor girl would be protected by domestic abuse laws. Now? She has no access to this protection under Issue One.

Now Ohioans are upset.
[sarcasm]Of course, it doesn't matter if we're denying rights to homosexuals, but as soon as heterosexuals are suffering... well. That is just intolerable. [/sarcasm] *disgusted*

Full Story Here, From 365Gay.Com

I have the utmost sympathy for the woman in question. I feel sorry that she can not get the protection she needs. I feel very strongly about protection from domestic abuse. I don't hate heterosexuals (life would be hard if I did!)-- just the idiots who want to deny me my rights. So, this is what I have to say to all the pro-Issue One voters who now have their panties in a bunch:

You guys voted this piece of crap in. Cry about it, why don't you? You were so determined to be stupid bigots that you cut off your nose despite your face. You made your beds, now lie in it.

*sigh* I'd move to the Netherlands, but I don't speak Dutch. ^^; Guess it's Canada-bound for me. ^_~

We'd be happy to have you! (Canada is not totally 100% same-sex marriage friendly yet, but we're pretty close and it's pretty inevitable in my opinion!)

At least someplace is acting civilized. *snorts at America* Oh yeah, we're leaders of the world, alright. Leading 'em right into the dark ages, more like.

*cuddles Ra* You're a doll.

Oh, God almighty. Assholes. *stews* I cannot deal with this Issue One crap. It really touches a nerve.

There just aren't words for this sort of stupidity.

Right with you on that one. Every time I think about it, my blood-pressure soars. X_x

I think all the fundamentalists and conservatives should just go somewhere and make their own country. Then they can ban and regulate the hell out of each other, for all I care.

Read my lips: SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE.

Dorks.

Oh god, I'm going to have to vote for the major party instead of like...the Green party. Sometimes I hate elections.
I have little understanding of Canadian politics, but I know how you feel. ^^

Well, because there are like...six parties
You're so frick'n lucky. We only have two parties, and they both suck rocks. ^_~;;;

Since Paul Martin (Current Liberal leader) wasn't in charge of it, I really don't see that they should act this way, but..
People just throw the baby out with the bathwater. Idiots. It's like thinking is too hard for them, or something.

XD Paul Gross is my Standard Canadian Icon for Icons. He's so wonderful. ^_~</u>
This icon tickles me even more!

There are nasty, prejudiced people everywhere, I know that. I'm just not sure if the conservative trend in Canada is quite as wide spread as it is in the US. It's getting pretty scary.

Cassie talked to me about this story. And though I pity the people hurt by this law, be they heterosexual or homosexual, there's some part of me that is just satisfied to see the voters getting what's coming to them, because they're stupid bastards. (No, I'm not nice today. Meh.)

Exactly. It's sort of like all the temperance people who supported the prohibition, then whined about the rise in organized crime. The government practically wrote them an open invitation! So, it's like that, except... it's not. ^^;

Me neither. *plops down beside Amber and crosses her arms*

Yay for acting like petulant children! (Have you noticed that I am in love with that word, 'petulant', and use it entirely too often in my writing? Heh.)
Meredith Bronwen Mallory: ayutwicegarnettrees on April 18th, 2005 03:16 am (UTC)
Hey-- petulant is a cool word. I like it. ^__^

*is petulant some more, just because*

Your icon! I love Drusilla. I don't really like Darla so much, but I like the two of them together. :)

I'm not a big Darla fan, either, but I loved it when she and Dru went nuts on LA. Highly entertaining! Drusilla is such a loveable lunatic. ^__^

*sigh*

Sometimes I really want to take people in this country and bash their heads together.
I think eventually we will see reason - but I don't see why we can't see it NOW.
Minnesota is currently trying to put a state constitution ban on gay marriage through the legistlature to put before the voters in November. There was a huge protest at the capital last week, but, well, seeing how this is turning out in the other states I just want to hit things.

I assume the poor woman can at least get a restraining order?
And, there is the part of me that thinks to the voters "serves you right for not voting with your BRAINS"

That's a lot of head bashing, but I'm all for it. My God, they're stupid.

I don't know. It makes perfect sense to me that separation of church and state means that any religionous feeling regarding homosexuality should have no baring on the law, but apparently some people think they're the Second Coming, or something. *snorts*

Goddamnit, not another one!

I assume the poor woman can at least get a restraining order?
Yeah. She's just not entitled to some of the protections she'd have under domestic abuse laws-- she has to settle with charging him with assault.

I feel bad for her, but I'm right with you on the voters. Ya reap what ya sew, dorkwads.
