Firefly 1.03: "Did he just go crazy and fall down?"
Survived the Evil Family Dinner of Doom (just barely) and am safely home in boring (but relative-free!) Ohio. I owe a great big thank-you to everyone who sent support just before I ventured into the lion's den. ^_~

And, obviously, good things come to those who wait, 'cause...

Firefly 1.03, Train Job: 'Did he just go crazy and fall down?'
Okay, I am now officially on-board with the Simon-love. Drugging Jayne? That took some balls, my friend. I can actually stand Jayne when he's stoned-- can we just keep him doped up for the rest of the series? ^_~ Simon's other lovely qualities include being such a sweetie to his sister, and not flinching when Mal's being an ass.

Kellyn warned me that this episode was the network pilot, so I was worried it would be a little annoying, but it really wasn't. It was just fun as all get-out, the way BtVS was before the annoying Spuffy.

Meredith's favorite parts of this episode include:
+"That's my nephew," says the Evil Russian Mob Guy, indicating the corpse hanging from the ceiling. "I'm going to heard about that at dinner tonight."
+Malcolm: "I just wanted you to face me so she could come up from behind and hit you." Zoe: *whack* The whole Union Day fight was great. Malcolm doesn't like to admit it, but he's really just a disappointed idealist. It's why he's so cranky.
+Inara and Kaylee and playing with hair! So cute!
+The *look* on Zoe's face when Mal said, "Remember I'll always love you." It was like a cross between queasy, freaked out, and some other unidentifiable emotion. I think she really thinks of Mal as her big brother. Then, she says, "Of course, we're married, sir." X_X;;; Real convincing, that.
+Inara hit Mal. Yay! He deserved it, on principle.
+Wash. "We're not leaving without my wife." So CUTE!
+Mal pushing the Muscular Guy of Doom into the thrusters. It was efficient, at least.
+River being all Druscilla-like. What is it with Joss and crazy chicks?

In summary, Simon's growing on me, Wash is cute, Jayne is smelly and unshaven, and Kaylee and Inara have a *thing*. Yay.

The more I see Firefly, the more I want to write my little Spander-bunny crossover. Hell, if I could write at all, that'd be great. I pounded out about two paragraphs of 'From Where Ever I Am To You' and then... pft. *kicks muse*

I'm saving BSG for tomorrow, mostly because I'm kinda tired, and I'm not up to watching the Chief be mean to Sharon right now.

:)
I love Jayne going crazy and Wash's "Did he just go crazy and fall down?" and Simon's "well, I told him to sit down"

Yay Simon love! My outer space boyfriend definitely needs all the love he can with all he has to do watching out for River.

You described Zoe's face so perfectly there!

Joss does have a thing for crazy chicks. And small girls who can KICK YOUR ASS.

I loved how, when he was trying to comfort River, she just went, "It's not relevent." It made me fall in love with both of them-- how lost she was when he said they couldn't go home, how determined he is to keep her safe.

*giggles* I love that scene from the trailer where the guy watching River fight goes, "Do you know her?" and Mal is all, "I really don't." Yeah. River would be a cool slayer. ^__^

Battlestar made my poli sci major heart sad last week, so I didn't even watch tonight.

Ty is being an incredibly asshole. I just hope Adama boxes his ears when he wakes up.

What happened in last week's episode? I had to miss it.
Amberminttown1 on August 6th, 2005 03:14 am (UTC)
Tigh declared martial law and was generally just an alcoholic loser.
That's not a good recap, but that was the part that made my inner academic sad.

That's an excellent summary. The only thing you left out was his probably-cylon!wife being a bitch and trying to make Rosalin look crazy. ^_~;;;

not happy with Ty right now.

My brain wanted to write Mrs. Tigh/President Roslyn after that, because my brain is wrong and tries to slash the president with everyone and also doesn't know what relationships are supposed to be like. Heh.

Heh, no, that's good for me. I just had no idea what happened, so it'll help when I watched last night's taped episode. :)

I love Mal and Zoe together; I think MalandZoe as a unit and Wash are now officially my favorite characters. Although Kaylee/Inara is a good... uh, character, too. ;)

I think I like Jayne, too, although I'm reserving judgment for a while.

(By the way, what exactly happened in the second half of the pilot last week? I ended up missing all of SciFi Friday, i.e., BSG and Firefly.)

*headesk*

when you said you missed the second episode last week and I sent you a synopsis I thought you meant The Train Job! *doh*
I'm sorry!

I'm also glad that you don't hate Jayne. I think I like him more than I admit - mostly because he makes me laugh. But I find his, uh, "moral dilemmas" fascinating sometimes too.
gamesiplaygamesiplay on August 6th, 2005 03:24 pm (UTC)
No, my fault entirely! I said the second episode, you gave me the second episode. I realized what had happened when I started reading your email and certain things didn't make sense, so I just stopped reading to avoid spoilers. :)

Jayne cracks me up, too. And I hear he gets some good character development later on, so I'm on board.

Glad you stopped. And sorry! I shoulda thought.

Jayne does indeed get good development later. I don't know if I necessarily like him as a person, but the's fascinating as a character. And has this weird combo of someone I'd absolutely want guarding my back and yet never want guarding my back.

I love Mal and Zoe together;
They're awesome-- like this snarky brother-sister pair. Zoe's got all the brains, though. ^_~

I think MalandZoe as a unit and Wash are now officially my favorite characters.
Wash is very understanding of Zoe being so close with Mal-- but then, he has no reason to feel threatened, since Mal and Zoe clearly have something platonic and rooted in having served together.

Although Kaylee/Inara is a good... uh, character, too. ;)
*giggles* Aren't they just. Kaylee's such a cute girl-next-door type.

(By the way, what exactly happened in the second half of the pilot last week? I ended up missing all of SciFi Friday, i.e., BSG and Firefly.)
Mal and Zoe delivered the goods, but had to kick some ass in order to get paid. Jayne told Mal he would eventually betray him if the price was right. Kaylee and Wash preformed an awesome move with the ship to get away from raiders, and Mal said Simon could stay on as ship's medic. Wash was cute.

Amber summarized BSG very well. ^_^;;;

Hee, exactly. I love Zoe.

Thanks for the summary--things make a lot more sense now. Although I could've guessed the "Wash was cute." *grins*
