I can't help it! I like to play with the pretty colors... and shiny new icons. ^_^;; I'm so hopeless.
I don't think I need to remind you ladies (and gents) of what you need to do today, if you're an American citizen. Go vote. Go pick the monster with the least heads, the idiot with the nicest tie, go choose between incompetence and incoherence. Above all, vote. We've got a choice-- it may not be much of one, but we've got it.
Yes, I have a dismal attitude towards this election. Whatever makes you ask? ^_~
I may not have a strong opinion on the presidency (well, okay, I do, but I'm not going to get into it here-- you're all big girls (and boys), you can make up your own minds.) I would, however, like to voice my opinion on one subject. Again, it's your choice and your mind you have to make up. But please give me a few minutes of your time.
Issue One on the Ohio state ballot is an amendment forever banning gay marriage and even civil unions. The writers of this proposal will give Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, and Transgendered persons no quarter. This pisses me off in ways I can not even begin to express in English-- there just aren't enough words for 'stupid', 'cowardly', and 'absolutely freak'n nuts'. There aren't enough curse words, either. So, until I find a language with enough uncompromising epitaphs (martian? plutonian? ^_~), I'll just say that we can not let this pass. Our political leaders want to move us forward... into the dark ages. They refuse to compromise-- the proposed amendment states that no marriage-like rights will ever be awarded to anyone other than 'one man and one woman'. That means no civil unions-- no partners rights, no way to adopt jointly... no nothing. Under Article 12, they can already fire you for being gay (that's Hamilton county-- vote Yes on Issue #3 to repeal this nonsense). Don't let these people take away our rights and the rights of future generations. These people go on about 'protecting' marriage-- from what? It was only in the 16th century that the church even got involved in marriage ceremonies. It is only within the last few centuries that marriage has been something other than an economic contract-- the buying and selling of women's labor and reproductive capabilities. Marriage has changed already-- it's supposed to be about love and equality now, about choice. It has to evolve to fit the society in which it functions, or it becomes obsolete. Check the issues in your state and county-- chances are, there's something like Ohio's issue one on there.
Put a stop to this.
Love knows no gender.
