... actually, I don't need boys for much of anything myself, but they are occasionally pretty to look at (James McAvoy, Hugh Dancy) and nice to listen to (see previous, and Michael Fassbender and Mads Mikkelsen). And Sasha Roiz (Renard, Grimm) is very tall... okay, they have their uses. ^_~ But, as Margot Verger says, they are totally optional accessories in many areas of life. *snerk*

At any rate! I am obviously here to inflict my art on you again (you poor dears). Submitted for your approval: Abigail Hobbs and Jeanne Weaver are ready to kick ass and take names-- and that includes the writers who offed them to advance the lead male's character development. ^_~ Crossover with Falling Skies.

I originally started this in honor of Amber's birthday, but I didn't finish it in time. ^^; Never the less, it was definitely inspired by our mutual frustration at the loss of two such amazing female characters. Yes, I understand Abigail dying... the show is called 'Hannibal', after all. But the loss of Jeanne was just lame.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Just a quick post to celebrate the birthday of the ever-lovely and witty minttown1! I hope you have a wonderful day, filled with things you love-- you deserve nothing less. And I will personally beat up anyone who says otherwise. ^_~

I honestly started your present early this year, but part of it is on order and the other (woefully inadequate) painting isn't done yet. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it up this weekend, maybe even before then. (There's nothing like a good slew of Criminal Minds on the DVR to supplement a marathon painting session. Of course, then I want to doodle Will and Spencer having a slumber party and wearing fuzzy feetie pajamas. X_x''') In the interim, I have a small and hopefully amusing Abigail Hobbs sketch. Because I'm still not sure who I'm more pissed off about-- Abigail, or Beverly.

In the spirit of Halloween, Miss Hobbs is haunting someone who definitely deserves it, with all the anti-cannibal horrors you and I have discussed! ^_~

I had fun doing the fingerless gloves and her 'little-red-ridding hood cloak'. She probably got the stag's-skull corset from the same place Hannibal and Chilton buy their decor. ^_~ I added goobers-- there are few people I can think of less physically and emotionally capable of eating goobers than Hannibal Lecter. (Lex Luthor? Erik Lehnsherr? Spock?) Just regular ink pen on steno paper, but I hope it gives you a laugh.

*hugs*

I'm still here. ^_^ The past week has been kind of crazy-- I'm settling into my new job, but it's very much a learn-as-you-go position. I had zero knowledge of SQL when I started and, through trial by fire, I've managed to pick up a great many of the basics, but it still feels a bit like that first week waaaay back in Japanese 101. I have background in C++ and HTML, which helps, and my boss has no problem with me using internet resources (thank G-d for Google), but I get really stressed when I know I'm missing some small piece. Today, after two full days of banging my head against the cubical, I was able to perfect a query that pulled a huge amount of data for some reporting we're doing, so I felt good about that. Actually, I laughed, threw my hands up in the air, and said 'yes!' so loudly the guy three cubes down asked if I'd made a touchdown. ^_~

The best news of all, however, is the fact that the unemployment hearing officer once again found in my favor.Collapse )

I can't thank you guys enough for the amazing encouragement and support you've given me. You are all such lovely people-- I feel honored to have you on my side.

To celebrate, I have a little sketch I free-handed on my lunch break. My new job is on a stretch of road in what is pretty much a factory and warehouse district, so there aren't a lot of places for me to go. So I usually find some place to tuck myself away for half an hour and read, draw, or work on fic. I definitely know I'm feeling better when I'm doodling again!

So, have some adorable bb!Charles, and a little mutated de-aged drabble:

*sighs* Still behind on Hannibal. I meant to come home and do this yesterday, but I've just been so… down lately, that really all I did was crawl into bed, cry for a little while, and go to sleep. Not to sound like a broken record, but I miss Murray, and I can't do anything right at my job now (shocker).

I did, however, do a small ink sketch while I was stuck inside for lunch. (It's already too hot to go outside for lunch, here. I swear we do have four seasons: Winter, Still Winter, Raining, and Construction. ^_~) Have some Team Sassy!Science:

Heeeey! Way, way behind on my Hannibal-- far less enjoyable things have been taking up my time, namely doing battle in the infected, puss-ridden bowels of RL. But, since I seem to have a reprieve *crosses fingers, knocks on wood, makes the sign of the evil eye* I thought I'd go ahead and type up the thoughts I jotted down in regards to 2x09.

But first, since there have been far too many depressing things on this journal lately, please have some "art" by yours truly. Once again, inspired heavily by conversations with Amber regarding how weird and shaky Will's connection with the FBI is now. ;-) No, I don't know why Jack is wearing a pimp suit.

Ahahaha, Will, your train-wreck of a life is deeply heart wrenching, but also kind of comforting, in that it makes me feel a lot better about mine. -_-''

I don't know what it is, but there are just some fandoms *cough*BoB*cough* that make me scribble like a mad-woman (as opposed to just typing like one ^_~). Apparently, Hannibal is one of those fandoms. As if you hadn't noticed already. ^_~

This started out as a quick sketch on Friday, and I almost discarded it when I saw the previews for 2x07. However, a woefully long wait at the doctor's office quickly let this whole thing get out of hand:

For some reason, my head-cannon from about 1x02 onward has been that Will names his dogs after WW2 Allied heroes/leaders. (Leigh also had this idea-- though for both Allied and Axis-- because we apparently share a brain. ^^;) So, we obviously have Winston (Churchill), Patton (the Doberman Pinscher), Truman (the Dachshund), and Dwight (the Sheepdog). Less famously, we have the the Irish Setter, McAuliffe-- the Army General who famously gave a one-word reply to the German's demands for surrender ("NUTS!"). I felt really bad I didn't have any girl dogs, so the weird terrier-mutt is Lyudmila, after Soviet sniper Lyudmila Pavlichenko-- widely considered the most successful female snipper in history.
[/ here endth the historical geekdom]

My apologies to any dog breeds maligned or misdrawn; I am still not the best at animals (or anything, depending on who you ask ^_~).

I'm really kind of pissed at the reactions from the 2x07 trailer (i.e., 'oh, wait, Will isn't a killer?'). How sad is it that Hannibal has framed Will for murder, overseen his incarceration, killed his surrogate-daughter and a close friend, slept with his 'crush', and shoved non-consensual tubes down his throat, and Lecter is still (in some ways) a better friend than Jack or Alana.

I'm just saying, I don't blame Will: DOGS > PEOPLE. ^_^

Alright-- sitting down to do this on a Monday because, a) I suck and b) I had a terrible migraine Friday, which meant I had to make up my time on Saturday, and then squeeze all my weekend chores into Sunday. Hopefully I'm emotionally prepared for this now. Natch, Fuller, I know you pull this shit on purpose.

Hannibal 2x05: name one thing about us two anyone could loveCollapse )

And now, as a tribute to my beloved Beverly, I have some fan art. I actually started this on Thursday, during a hideous six hour training class. (That's why I always bring a notebook-- not cause I'm gonna write things down, but because it's great for hiding sketches in. ^_~) I'm not thrilled with the color scheme, but I had to work with what was on-hand, and then finish up at home. I'm trying to make the thumb-nail small enough so it won't be spoiler if you don't look too closely.

Abigail's hair turned out too red, and my stupid scanner one more failed to pick up the background shading. Otherwise, for a quick comic, I'm pretty happy with it. Though apparently my subconscious thinks that the dress-code in heaven is pretty lax, as long as you wear white and blue. X_x;; When Bev and Abigail are done, Amber and I are gonna slip in a wipe our greasy McDonald's super-size fries all over Lecter's furniture, too. ;-)

Seriously, this show. *cowboy drawl* I wish I could quit you. XD

Today is the anniversary of the day the wonderful, pithy, and ever brilliant Leigh (aka gamesiplay) began gracing this mortal sphere in her current incarnation. A glorious day indeed, for she is a talented writer, literary critic, historian, stage aficionado, Champion of Dogs, and all around great friend. *hugs tight* Happy Birthday, my dear-- I hope you have an awesome day. You deserve all that, and more.

I am still, still, still having shitty luck a) writing in general and b)writing the 'Roti' fic in particular. So, instead, I humbly offer some fan "art" for our favorite special-agent-pretty-empathy-puppy-person, Will Graham:

Winston and Will: "I've Been Appointed As Your Defense"

I'm actually really happy with the way both of them turned out. Winston looks much more animated than my animals usually turn out, and I managed to get Will's stubble in there without it looking ridiculous. Yes, I realize he looks a little bishounen but, lets face it, if this Hannibal were a manga, it'd be the yaoi kind sold on the top shelf in a sealed plastic sleeve. ^_~ The blue-grey wash I did for the background did not turn out quite so well, but I guess you can't have everything. As for why Will is barefoot... well, like Joss Whedon, I firmly believe that some actors/actresses are just more attractive when they're barefoot. *sweatdrop*

Winston should totally be Will's defense lawyer. He's the only one (aside from Hannibal X_x') who knows our boy is innocent.

But it is one extremely cold horse, I don't mind telling you. With the wind chill taken into consideration, it feels around about -24 degrees fahrenheit-- it's roughly the same temperature on Mars.*

Luckily, we missed the snow and ice-rain the weather people were threatening over the weekend. Schools were still closed due to the cold-- and they've already announced closures for tomorrow. We're just not used to it around here. My neighborhood lost power for about seven hours on Friday, which saw every single member of my household piled into the same bed at about three in the morning. They eventually got it fixed (someone hit a local tower), and I'm glad it happened before this radical, glacial drop. X_x;;

At any rate, I've finally gotten together the 'art' I've been threatening to post. ^_~

Art (term used loosely ^_~) Below The CutCollapse )

As always, I appreciate you taking the time to look at my work. Any thoughts, comments, and/or left-over candy-canes would be very much appreciated.

I hope all my friends on the East Coast and in the Midwest are staying as warm as possible! Please drive carefully, and just stay safe in general. *hugs*

*Sans wind-chill on the Red Planet, I grant you. I'd hate to think what it feels like. Hopefully all the little green men and women have their mittens. ^_~

Whew! Would you believe that today is the first day in two weeks that I've worked a typical-length shift during my regularly scheduled hours? I've had odd days off, thankfully, but we also had LC (little cousin) fly in to visit on the 22nd. We put him on the plane back to Florida yesterday afternoon: two mojitos, one bottle of absinthe*, three boxes of sugar cubes, one cross-bow hole in the basement wall, seven boxes of pizza and one flaming kitchen sink later. I love that kid dearly-- we've patched up a lot of the complicated/hard feelings that we (meaning LC, Sam, the girls and I) were dealing with back in 2010-- but he's as zany as ever. I wouldn't change him, but he does take some looking after.

*NECESSARY DISCLAIMER: Not "real" Absinthe-- it's that Lucid stuff that sells legally in the States.

Overall, this Christmas was one of the best I'd had in years. cut for some extended family nonsense, but with an unusually happy twistCollapse )

Sam, LC and I brought the girls home and popped in Pacific Rim. Then when the sun had set and the stars were brilliantly visible in the night sky, they took me outside and showed me the backyard telescope they'd gone in on as my present. I was completely floored-- still am! It was such a sweet and amazing gesture, especially since it's something I've always wanted, but never would have bought by myself. It took two nights of practicing, reading and playing with it but by Friday night, I was able to point it at Jupiter and see not only the faint pink/orange orb itself, but also the four Galilean moons. They hung there in the black, silent and serene cogs an almost-perfect mechanism of creation. Of course, I cried. X_x;;; It was very beautiful, though-- and I am very, very excited about learning to find other objects!

I hope everyone else had an amazing Christmas/holiday-- all of my friends deserved that, and so much more. In the next couple of days, I hope to post some distressingly late Christmas presents for friends/fandom. We'll start with Amber (aka minttown1):

Basically inspired by all the times I've wished Abigail's story could have ended differently. I realize the show is called Hannibal, but it's just not fair to have such a strong, subversive female character end like that. Part of me still irrationally hopes her story isn't over. ^^;;;

Leigh-darling, I promise I'm working on your 'Roti' fic! Unfortunately, every time I even think about the new Season 2 promo poster, I have a reaction of such profound and irrational despair that I cannot even articulate it in words. It looks something like this:

I work a short day tomorrow, and then I'm off New Year's day. Everyone stay safe, happy, and enjoy the 'tail end' of the Year of the Snake. *rimshot* ^_~
